Probably one of the most important advances in design on the web has been the emergence of the technology developed by Macromedia called Flash. Flash is the most widely used technology in software that allows the creation of vector animation. Interest in the use of vector graphics is that they allow you to perform lightweight animations, ie it takes some time to be loaded by the browser.

As you may know it, there are two types of charts:

Vector graphics in which an image is formed from lines (or vectors) that have certain properties (color, thickness ...). The quality of this type of graphics the zoom or not depends on the type of resolution with which you look at the chart. As much as we get closer, the chart is not Pixelate, because the computer automatically draws the lines for that level of closeness.

The bitmap images. This type of graphics resemble a kind of grid in which each of the squares (pixels) shows a specific color. The information in these graphs is saved individually for each pixel and is defined by coordinates and color of that pixel. This type of graphs are dependent on the varying size and resolution, may lose quality by changing its dimensions successively. So, Flash uses the possibilities offered to work with vector graphics, resizable and easily alterable by functions, so an intelligent storage of images and sounds used in their animations through libraries, to optimize the size of files containing animations.

This optimization of the space animations, combined with the ability to load the animation while it is displayed in the browser (a technique called streaming), enables it to provide visual elements that give life to a site without that this time page load time of up to unbearable limits by visitors. In addition to the purely aesthetic aspect, Flash introduced into the environment can interact with the user.

To do this, Flash relies on a programming language called Action Script. Object-oriented, this language has clear influences of JavaScript and allows, among other things, manage the filling of forms, run different parts of an animation based on events produced by the user jump to other pages, etc.. Thus, Macromedia makes available a technology designed to bring color to our website while allowing us to interact with our visitors. Of course, this is not the only alternative vector design applied to the Web but without doubt it is the most popular and complete them.
